Biografie
Melanie Garrett werd op 27 maart 1985 geboren te Salem, Oregon in de Verenigde Staten. De beginselen van het trompetspelen leerde ze onder anderen van Jay Chen. Ze studeerde trompet bij George Recker en Brian McWhorter aan de University of Oregon, waar ze in 2008 haar Bachelordiploma behaalde.
In de VS volgde ze een masterclass van de Nederlandse trompettist Arto Hoornweg. Bij hem volgde ze tussen 2008 en 2010 de Masteropleiding in Utrecht, die ze juni 2010 jongstleden met succes heeft afgesloten.
Ook heeft ze deelgenomen aan het Pierre Monteux Festival Orchestra in Maine, het Oberlin Trumpet Seminar met de internationaal vermaarde trompetpedagoog Roy Poper, de Atlantic Brass Quintet Seminar met de Atlantic Brass Quintet en Triton Brass Quintet.
In Nederland heeft ze gespeeld met onder andere het Nationaal Jeugdorkest, het Radio Philharmonisch Orkest en het Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest en het Orkest van het Oosten.
Melanie speelt ook barokmuziek en eigentijdse muziek met haar eigen kamermuziekensembles.
Ze is gevestigd in Den Haag en werkt als freelance trompettist en docent.
Biography
American trumpet player Melanie Garrett was born in 1985 in Salem Oregon. She began playing trumpet at the age of 10 in the school band and later studied privately with Jay Chen. She continued her trumpet studies at the University of Oregon, graduting with a Bachelor of Music degree in 2008, with George Recker and Brian McWhorter.
While in the United States, Melanie attended a masterclass given by Arto Hoornweg of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and moved to the Netherlands to pursue her Master of Music with him at the Utrecht Conservatory, from which she graduated in 2010.
Melanie has participatedin various festivals and seminars worldwide, including the Pierre Monteux Festival Orchestra in Maine, USA, the Oberlin Trumpet Seminar with Roy Poper and the Atlantic Brass Quintet Seminar in Boston.
While in the Netherlands, Melanie has performed with the National Youth Orchestra, Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orkest van het Oost.
Melanie enjoys many style of music, and performs Baroque to contemporary wos as a soloist, orchestral and chamber musician.
Melanie currently lives in The Hague and is active as a freelance performer and trumpet teacher.
